Lately, I've been super into simplifying my life for one simple reason (pun intended), it feels freakin' GOOD! Simplifying is one of the easiest ways to raise your vibration (aka feel better), therefore, I'm all about it and you should be too! Here are some of the most no-brainer, little effort required ways to start simplifying your life today.
A lot of the techniques for simplifying that I'm about to mention in this post are taught in a mini-course I love called Slow It Down by resiliantapp.com. If you're wanting to simplify your life these days, I highly recommend you check it out. (Especially because it's only a $7 course!)
Happy simplifying!
1. Minimalize
One of the easiest ways to simplify your life is to eliminate some of the physical stuff. A little good old fashion decluttering can go a looong way and make you feel surprisingly relieved! Culture convinces us that more is better to promote consumerism, but in reality, the less stuff you have the less stuff you have to worry about, organize, clean, maintain, keep track of, and collect. Plus, the more space you have in your home and life, the more clarity, simplicity, and creativity you can cultivate! #winning
It can definitely seem overwhelming to decluttering your home all at once so just take it one step at a time. Today, start with something small, like a closet, pantry, entryway, bathroom or maybe even just one drawer. Then tomorrow another space, and the next day another.
For some questions you can ask yourself to help you let go of things here's a whole blog post dedicated to just that called 8 Questions to Help You Declutter for Clarity.
2. Unsubscribe
The other day I saw a meme that said, "Adulthood is basically just replying back and forth with email until somebody dies..." and I was like, "Yup, sounds about right." What a sad life we live... But it doesn't have to be this way! Think of how much of your precious time and attention you spend on emails that are either unnecessary or don't make your life better, like mine do. ;) Especially if you have a smart phone, it's probably a lot.
So what can we do to stop this tragic way of living? Unsubscribe of course! Make a pledge to unsubscribe from at least one email list each day this week. Legally there should always be a button at the very bottom of the email with a link so you can unsubscribe right away. The fewer emails in your life, the better.
3. Meditate
There's this magical thing that happens when you meditate... Well, there's actually a lot of magical side effects, but the most notable one (when it comes to simplifying) is that it helps you care less about the trivial things. A good meditation practice will help you put things in perspective so you can stop worrying about the small stuff and have clarity on how to spend your precious time and attention. Life becomes much simpler this way. Even just five minutes of deep breathing a day will create a profound shift. So let today be that day where you either start a meditation practice or rekindle the one you already have going!
If you're new to meditating you can start here and thank me later! Or check out this list all my favorite guided meditations you can use and enjoy.
4. Set Some Boundaries
You only have so much time here on earth, which makes every second priceless. If we're not careful it's easy for other people to waste our time and complicate our everyday lives. That's where boundaries come in (and save the day). Take a few moments today to set some for yourself and others.
For example, I always turn my phone on "do not disturb" mode at 8 p.m. Anyone who has ever called or texted me during this time now knows that I don't reply until the next day. This makes my nights more relaxing and my quality time does not get interrupted by clients or anyone who needs something from me.
Today set your own boundaries by thinking of the things other people do that waste your time and complicating your life and how you can nicely tell them to stop doing that or make it harder for them to do so. If you show that you respect your time, others will too.
5. Practice the Disciplined Pursuit of Less
I recently read an amaaaaazing book called Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less that I think anyone trying to simplify their life needs to read ASAP. It's all about decluttering your life. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not. It really empowers us to reclaim control of our own choices about where to spend our precious time and energy. And you know I'm all about self-empowerment (Hence, my book, #ActuallyICan.)!
I highly suggest you grab a copy of Essentialism today so you can embark on the journey where less is more.
